‘Pants thief’ appears in court pants-less
Trouser-thief Trevor Roland
Appearing before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday was Trevor Roland to answer the charges of breaking and entering as well as larceny.
In a strange twist of fate, however, Roland stood in the docks clad in a T-shirt and no trousers, despite the fact that he was being charged with the theft of 32 pairs of jeans.
It is alleged that on Monday, August 23, Roland broke into a shop belonging to Irene Sawh and stole more than 30 pairs of jeans, of varying prices and brands. The jeans were valued at about $58,800.
Roland, who was unrepresented in the indictable matter, was subsequently remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on September 30.
Also appearing before the Magistrate were two young men involved in an altercation that ensued earlier this month.
Nineteen-year-old Nigel Harvey was charged yesterday with the felonious wounding of Jamal Barrow on Monday, August 16. It is alleged that on the day in question, Harvey wounded Barrow with intent to maim, disfigure and cause grievous harm to the young man.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Gomes who made an application for bail on his client’s behalf. In his application he noted that Harvey lives with his mother at Lot 731 South Turkeyen, Section C. He is currently employed as a construction worker with a company in Diamond. Gomes pointed out that Harvey has an unblemished record and poses no flight risk.
Harvey was granted bail to the tune of $85,000 and is required to reappear in court on September 30.
On the other side of the story, 17-year-old Jamal Barrow was called to answer the charge of assault and causing actual bodily harm in the same altercation. Barrow was unrepresented but he did make an application for bail which was not opposed by Police Prosecutor Telford. Bail was granted and set at $20,000. He is expected to reappear in court on September 30 as well.
