Dear Editor,
I. G. Abbott’s 26/8/2010 letter, “An attempt to plant confusion in the minds of the few who might be less informed”, is equally culpable as Peeping Tom’s 24/8/2010 “Keeping the Burnham flame alight!” Both are on an excursion to plant confusion.
For some reason everyone likes to tell the PNCR what to do. Freddie Kissoon again poked his nose in today with his column, “This is the PNC for you.” There must be some motive to want to sow confusion among the PNCR ranks. Freddie likes to think he is the end all and be all for analyzing political praxis (his favourite word) and uses his sense of relevance to regale in hearsay, discard praxis and is not put out by his confidentiality breaches that shock others.
Many who tell the party what it must do, if you ask them about the party’s rules to support what they are saying they do not have a clue, or if they do they don’t care for applying the rules, or if they want changes in the party they don’t want to follow the rules.
The PNC was founded by Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham. Burnham was a stickler for discipline and obedience for rules. He would have wanted his party to unite around those and he gave his party those rules in a party constitution; those who don’t like it when it doesn’t serve their unruly interests, too bad.
It is not for Peeping Tom, Freddie Kissoon or non-members of the PNCR to say who should lead the party or who should go. Those decisions are made by the members at delegates’ conference. In the dem seh he seh Abbott seh Peeping Tom seh they are only two persons who are capable of holding on to Forbes Burnham’s beliefs, “but both persons are too far outside the loop at the moment and are not likely to enjoy the confidence of the party’s delegates.” From this dem seh Abbott consulted the looking glass and found one of the persons has to be Winston Murray and proceeded to spread the confusion to seek to divide the party by dividing Winston
Murray and Robert Corbin.
It is hard to believe he will fall for this confusion or allow his name to be used as bait to sow division, ignore the party’s principles and procedures and destroy his party.
Freddie Kissoon is an academic and if he brings to his column the rigorous academic prudence he encourages impressionable minds at the university to apply he’ll write better and arrive at logical conclusions.
The first thing he should try to do is acquaint himself with the party’s praxis as written in the party’s constitution before he writes. That is Politics 101. He said he is a rights activist so it is expected he will respect the right of the party members to choose their leaders. And if he wants to change the party leadership and sees the importance in rules he will follow or ask others to follow the party’s constitution that will allow for such action.
If Kissoon, Abbott and Tom can find no rule driven basis to support their desire then they are all intent on sowing seeds of division into the minds of the less informed. The danger with the likes of these is the prospect of what they will do to others if they had real power, head any organisation or department.
