Marketing Executive of Guyana Beverages Inc., Shameiza Yadram (centre), presents a Busta shirt to ECB president Asif Ahmad in the presence of L-R, Hakim Khan, Robert Selman, and Carl Brandon.
The management of Guyana Beverages Inc. of Diamond EBD has always proven to be a good corporate citizen and yesterday morning more evidence of this surfaced when that entity acquiesced to the necessary funding to facilitate the successful staging of the 7th Annual Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) 50-over round-robin cricket festival slated to run from September 10-19 next.
Eight teams placed into two zones will battle for honors with the final to be staged at Anna Regina on the Essequibo Coast. Those teams in Zone A are South Essequibo, Pomeroon, North Essequibo and Central Essequibo while Zone B teams comprise East Bank Essequibo, Bartica, Leguan and Wakenaam
Yesterday morning’s ceremony entertained the presence of several executives from the ECB along with officials from Guyana Beverages Inc.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Guyana Beverages Inc. Robert Selman reiterated his company’s support towards the impending activity as well as sports in general. The beverage boss intimated that he was impressed with the works of the executives in promoting cricket in that County. He further lauded the high level of improvement witnessed over the years.
This is a clear indication of the faith that my executives have in the organisers even as we note the success that the Busta Festival has enjoyed in the County,” said Mr. Selman.
Responding to Mr. Selman’s remarks, ECB President Asif Ahmad expressed gratitude for the support received from the beverage company over the years. He wished the company all the best in its future undertakings even as he issued a challenge to the Pomeroon team. “If your team gets to the finals I promise you that the game will be staged in your community.” Mr. Ahmad further noted that the corporate intervention by Busta has witnessed a marked improvement of the sport in the region.
He, however, lamented that while such successes have impacted positively at the Inter-County youth level, the U-15 and U-19, there is still a lot to be desired at the senior level.
Also present at yesterday’s launching were members of the Essequibo Cricket Umpires Association, Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the ECB Hakim Khan, Guyana Beverages’ Marketing Executive Shameiza Yadram, and PRO of the ECB Carl Brandon.
