Alpha has set the perfect platform from which to launch their bid to win the 3rd Annual Inter Guiana Football Club Championship.
The leading local club side will face the number club in the land, Guyana Defense Force from 16:00hrs in a crucial match-up for both teams. The two visiting clubs will go head to head from 14:00hrs at the GCC Ground in opening play today.
Following their 3-1 whipping of French Guiana’s Gelder de Kourou in their opening game on Wednesday, Alpha, on 3 points and at the top of the table, will be very confident of taking care of business against the Army who are joint second with one point after their 2-2 draw with Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe.
Conditions at the GCC on Wednesday were not the best due to overnight and afternoon rain but the teams will have to rise above such a challenge as they seek championship glory.
Both Alpha and the GDF seemed a bit tentative in the opening minutes against their respective opponents on the opening day but got better as the minutes flowed.
With the likes of Dwain Jacobs, Anthony Abrams, Dwight Peters, Shawn Bishop, Quincy Madramootoo, Andrew Murray, Kelvin Mc Kenzie, Captain Howard Lowe and Ronson Williams in goal; Alpha will start the game with the physiological advantage but the Army can be a force to reckon with when they play serious ball.
They {GDF}started well against Inter Moengotapoe, cantered to a 2-0 advantage but fell apart to the extent that they allowed the visitors back into the game which ended 2-2. The Technical staff will have to do more work in motivating their charges for today’s encounter which they must win if they are to lift the championship.
Stellon David, Delroy Deen and Warren Gilkes who all came on as 2nd half subs in Wednesday’s game will have to play a pivotal role if the GDF are aiming to come out on top.
Main strikers Peter Parks and Telson Mc Kinnon along with will also have to up their game today.
The hard working playmaker Marlon Benjamin will again be in charge at midfield along with another hard worker Eusi Phillips. Captian and Goalkeeper Delon Younge will have his work cut out against the potent strike force that Alpha will throw at them. Fans can look forward to some enthralling football between these two sides.
The opening game between Gelder de Kourou and Inter Moengotapoe is also expected to be a thriller as with both teams having to win in order to be in line for the championship.
Inter Moengotapoe secured a point in their clash with the GDF but Gelder are yet without a single point following their loss to Alpha.
Both sides looked solid in their opening games but it is now down to the hungrier of the two who will take top honors today. Kick off time is 14:00hrs.
