After local entertainment promoters Hits & Jams provided Guyanese with three high-standard concerts as a part of their Jam Zone Summer Break activities at the Guyana National Stadium, all roads will again lead to the Providence venue on Saturday and Sunday for an event that the facility was originally build for in 2007….cricket.
Cricket matches between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have produced several epic battles and fans anticipate two more pulsating contests between the teams this weekend.
With an entire nation’s support as they prepare to represent the West Indies in South Africa in next month’s Champions League 20/20 tournament, Guyana will have their final two practice matches against T&T from 20:00hrs each night and tickets go on sale from today in Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo.
The expectancy level for this weekend games is sky-high and fans will also see New Line Cavaliers oppose Universal DVD Club Berbice Titans from 16:00hrs on Saturday in a re-match of the their July 4 final at the Stadium in the DJ Stress 20/20 Festival when Berbice emerged champions.
The next day, the Guyana/T&T battle will be preceded by another 16:00hrs contest, this time between East Coast Jaguars and the Georgetown Pit Bulls and fans are being encouraged to get their tickets early to avoid disappointment on match day.
Tickets for any of the four main stands cost $1,000 while children under 12 years-old will be admitted free. Tickets go on sale today at all the locations of the M & M Snackette, Guyana Cricket Board Office Regent Street, Bourda, Imran and Son at Rose hall Town, Ali and Sons New Amsterdam, Dave’s Sports Bar (Grove), PK’s Variety Store (Canal # 2), Aaron & Andrew General Store (Parika, Meter-Meer-Zorg and V-E-Hoop), Joseph Record Bar, Discount Palace (Lusignan) and Lalsa General Store in D’Edward Village, West Berbice.
Dave Martins’ presence to sing the famous ‘Not a Blade of Grass’ before the Guyana/ T&T game each night, Tassa drummers and the energetic dancing girls will also add to the entertainment this weekend.
When Trinidad last played Guyana at Providence the Bravo siblings (Darren and Dwayne) spearhead T&T to victory by 81 runs in the last regional One-Day final.
Banks DIH energises national athletes
Several of the country’s leading sportsmen and sportswomen have been introduced to a new line of energy drinks being distributed locally by Banks DIH Ltd. in association with the Coca Cola Company.
Banks DIH Special Events Manager Mortimer Stewart said that his company recently launched a sampling exercise to give athletes a chance to taste the products which include Powerade, Glaceau Vitamin Water, Nestea iced Tea and Minutes Maid beverages.
The response has been heartening from the sampling and product sales, Stewart disclosed.
Powerade and Glaceau Vitamin Water were presented to the National cricketers currently preparing for the 2010 Airtel Twenty20 Champions League in South Africa next month, the National Under-17 footballers now preparing for CFU second round World Cup qualifying series, GCC hockey players as part of the promotion exercise.
Patrons at several fitness clubs around Georgetown including Genesis at Transport Sports Club, Flex Gym and Zahiff Fitness Gym were also presented with the beverages.
Stewart said the popular Glaceau Vitamin Water comes in three flavours, Defence, Essential and Connect, while the Powerade flavours are Jagged Ice, Infrared Freeze and Green Squall. The Minute Maid is sold in seven flavours while the Lemon is the only flavour available in the Iced Tea. Banks DIH Ltd. is the sole and exclusive distributor of all Coca Cola products in Guyana.
