A 30-year old gold miner from Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara became another murder victim in Guyana’s interior.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Rawle Mentore was shot dead after inflicting several chop wounds on his alleged killer.
The incident occurred in the Takuba Trail of the Kurupung Backdam on Friday midday.
According to information, Mentore and his killer were engaged in a confrontation over a claim.
It is alleged that Mentore chopped his attacker, who hails from Roxanne Burnham Gardens in the city, before the man shot him with an illegal firearm.
The killer then fled leaving a blood trail behind.
Since the area is remotely located, Mentore’s body was not discovered until Friday evening by another miner who was passing through the area.
The matter was reported to the police late Friday night and yesterday a party, including Commander David Ramnarine visited the area.
After discovering Mentore’s body, investigators followed a blood trail which led them to the killer, who was bracing against a log, bleeding profusely from his wounds.
He is presently receiving treatment in a city hospital.
