Grammy-winning American R&B superstar Ne-Yo arrived in Guyana yesterday ahead of his concert this evening at the National Stadium, and said he was ready to give love.
And he was ready to also talk about other things, like how he said half-Guyanese girl Rihanna has a big forehead, and how he will manage his family life and career.
Asked about his perceptions about his fan following in Guyana, Ne-Yo said he had no idea, saying he has the rule of giving love wherever he gets love. And Guyana is getting ready to show him the love.
The lines at Ashmin’s in Georgetown were running all day long as fans try to get tickets for tonight’s show. They will be selling for $3,000 up to 20:00 hrs. After that you will have to shell out $6,000 at the gate and hope to get the limited tickets that will be at the gate. That is if you’re not among those who are picking up the US$100 VIP tickets.
Ne-Yo was not ready to dish out what he has up his sleeves for tonight’s show, preferring just to encourage fans to come out and see. Today, one of Ne-Yo’s fans, and a friend, will get to spend the day with him.
Ne-Yo has a string of hits to his name, and he is preparing to release his latest album “Libra Scale,” ahead of his 31st birthday. The album will feature the singles “Beautiful Monster” and “Champagne Life.”
The title of the album is inspired by his Zodiac sign (he was born on October 18, 1979) and he told reporters at the Princess Hotel yesterday that it’s about the way of life of those born under the sign – about how to see life in the balance.
He has reason to see that now. He is expecting his first baby with girlfriend Monyetta Shaw. It would obviously be a big change in his lifestyle, but Ne-Yo insisted yesterday that he will manage his family life.
Does that mean an ease in his musical pursuits? It doesn’t seem so.
“My career is my life,” he said. And that career involves collaborations with various other artistes, such as Rihanna. He has made headlines for saying the Bajan superstar has a big forehead.
But he said Rihanna is like his little sister, and so since she is practically family he can call her whatever he wants.
Opening for Ne-Yo this evening will be a line-up of local artistes including Timeka Marshall and Jory.
