M. Beepat and Sons Ltd through the Nestle Supligen brand presented the victorious national girls Windball Cricket team that recently defeated regional counterparts Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) 4-1 in their five-match International T20 series with a quantity of bags, during a simple ceremony that was held yesterday, at the Ptolemy Reid Rehab Centre on Carmichael Street.
Making the presentation was Nestle Brand Manager Selwyn Bobb, who told the girls that they were pleased with the team’s performance in retaining their title and the contribution was made in recognition of that achievement.
Bobb stated that Supligen will continue to support the team. He also urged the girls to bring into reality the tagline of Supligen, which is “Generate your Edge.”
He congratulated the team for extending their dominance over the Trinidadians for the third year in a row, adding that Supligen will make an even bigger impact next year when the tournament is hosted in T&T.
Mark Younge, who hosts the Supligen Sports Desk on HBTV Channel Nine, was instrumental in obtaining the contribution for the team.
He congratulated the girls for producing yet another inspiring performance and wished them all the best for the 2011 series.
Responding on behalf of the organising group, Al Sport and Tour Promotions, Director Kenisha Headley thanked the entity for what she explained is a timely and generous donation and urged other businesses to follow the pattern set by the Regent Street business.
Captain Andriska Mickle, other members of the team, and co-ordinator of the series Allister Munroe were present at the ceremony.
The Guyanese have dominated their counterparts since the series began in 2007.
This year, Guyana won the first four games, but T&T avoided the whitewash with a consolation three-wicket win in the final game.
Al Sports and Tour Promotion had collaborated with the Ministry of Sport and National Sports Commission to stage the event.
