Chin roars into final of Caribbean Squash C/ships
The second day of action provided mixed results for the four Guyanese in the Men’s Individual Competition with Richard Chin being the only one left standing at the end of the day as play continued in the National Lotteries Authority Caribbean Squash Championships in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Chin lived up to his number 2 seeding by beating former world Top 70 player Nick Kyme of Bermuda.
Kyme had eliminated two Guyanese from the main draw the previous day. Chin avenged his team-mates losses in the most impressive manner with a lopsided drubbing of the former professional 11/3, 11/4, 11/1.
The win catapulted him into the semi-finals later that day for a date with 5-time Barbados National Champ and current Caribbean number 3 Shawn Simpson.
Chin continued to display precision squash not often seen in the Caribbean.
His surgical drop shots, lobs and sublime placements had the Bajan covering a lot of court and bending over from exhaustion.
He was put out of his misery when Chin closed out the match 11/3, 11/4, 11/6.
Chin will now face the current Caribbean Champ Chris Binnie of Jamaica in the final which was scheduled to be played last evening at 19:00 hrs.
Meanwhile, Robert McDavid and Alex Arjoon who were drawn against each other in the 3rd round of the Consolation Draw meant one Guyanese would be eliminated.
After losing on day one to former senior champion Julian Chin, Robert McDavid once again had to face another team-mate.
He came up short against Arjoon, losing 6/11, 5/11, 10/12.
Eighteen year old Arjoon once again showed focus and determination light years beyond his age.
In the 3rd game he was down 7/10 and fended off three game balls to win the match.
He was then scheduled to face Jamaican Bruce Burrowes who had beaten him 3/2 in a recent encounter.
This time Burrowes ended the match in four games, beating Arjoon 11/9, 6/11, 11/8, 11/9.
Julian Chin, by virtue of losing in the third round of the main draw was placed into the 4th round of the Consolations.
He played the match of his life and pulled off an impressive 3/2 win against Bermudian Chris Stout.
Trailing 1 game to 2, Julian dug deep to win the 4th game in a tie breaker.
He then took command of the match and easily won it 8/11, 12/10, 3/11, 12/10, 11/2.
The win advanced Chin into the quarter finals of the Consolation Draw for a showdown with another Bermudian.
His winning streak, however, came to an end 4 hours later when he lost a tough match to Robert Maycock.
