The Guyana Rugby Football Union has announced the selection of three Women’s players to participate in the NACRA Senior Women’s Fifteens Championships in the Bahamas.
Guyana was unable to meet the cost of sending a full Fifteens team.
However, Guyana has been invited to send three of its top players to participate in a Caribbean Select Women’s Fifteens team which will compete in the Tournament.
A group of twenty-six (26) players have been selected from Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Mexico, Bermuda, BVI and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Each participating Union has been required by NACRA to provide USD$150 per person and to contribute towards their housing and meals.
The Guyana players selected are Sabola Grey (Women’s Captain- back), Nicole Nero (GFRU Assistant Secretary/Treasurer- forward) and Collette Hope (back).
While in the Bahamas, players will be exposed to high intensity training, ball handling techniques and will play in three matches; against Canada and a USA U20 team and the Bahamas Women’s National 15s side.
The Guyana trio leaves here tomorrow, August 11 at 05:45hrs and will return on August 23 at 01:20hrs.
During the high intensity training programme they will look at handling, contact and decision-making; Discussion session on field position and tactics; ruck and maul; video analysis of men’s and women’s games; defending and attacking in phases; planning for practice match; controlled situations practice match; scrum, line-out (forwards) read and react (backs) among others.
The select team will also prepare for their involvement in the tournament against the other teams.

Guyana enjoy good opening day at Pan Am Junior Badminton C/ships
The Individual Championships of the XIX Pan American Junior Badminton Championships started yesterday in the Dominican Republic and the Guyanese players had a good day in the early going.
The Tournament is being played at the Pebelon de Tennis de Mesa, Parque del Este, Santo Domingo.
Among the countries Taking part are: Canada, Dominican Republic, USA, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Barbados, Jamaica, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, El Salvador, Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Guyana. The results of the opening Matches for the Guyanese Players are as Follows:
Under 11 Girls Singles Round 2: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) defeated Cindy Rodriguez (DR) 21-8, 21-9
Under 13 Boys Singles Round 1: Narayan Ramdhani (GUY) defeated Isaac Lopez (DR) 21-9, 21-8
Under-15 Boys Singles Round 1: E. Zambrano Solano (ECU) defeated Noel Shewjattan (GUY) 21-14, 21-8
Under 11 Mixed Doubles Round 1: Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY)/Jourdan Hydol-Smith (JAM) defeated The No. 3 seeds Matthias Lai/Michelle (USA) 21-8, 19-21, 21-14
Under 13 Mixed Doubles Round 1: Narayan Ramdhani (GUY)/Ester Reynolds (JAM) defeated Danny De La Cruz(DOM)/Ralitsa Wong (TRI) 21-12, 21-14

All systems in place for GTA Super Sixes cricket fiasco
A record 273 teams have so far registered for the inaugural nationwide super sixes tapeball cricket tournament scheduled to get underway on Saturday August 21 – Sunday September 26. The tournament is organized by the Guyana Tapeball Cricket Association, an affiliate of the Guyana Softball League, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. However, the inclement weather has created some doubts pertaining to a start on the proposed date and organizers have disclosed that there might be a change of schedule.
The competition is billed as the biggest tournament of this sort and organizers have extended the registration period to facilitate the many interested teams. A special treat is also in store for the spectators. This gesture was made possible through added input of the sponsors who have all indicated an interest in reciprocal benefits for the various communities that support their businesses.
There have also been additions to the prizes following a decision by the management of Trophy Stall of Bourda Market to come on board with medals for the female and the U-15 teams. Anil Wireless of Anna Regina has also affirmed to a sponsorship deal of a special prize for the best dressed team that qualifies for the super sixteen phase of the competition. Advertising Agency, Impressions have also donated t-shirts for the umpires and spectators alike. That organization will also offer mementos for some lucky spectators.
Meanwhile, the area teams have already satisfied the registration requirements include; Georgetown (22 teams), Upper East Coast (15 teams), Lower East Coast (15 teams), Upper Corentyne (7 teams), Lower Corentyne (5 teams), New Amsterdam (10 teams), Canje (10 teams), West Coast Berbice (15 teams), West Coast Demerara (8 teams), West Bank Demerara (12 teams), Linden (20 teams), East Bank Demerara (58 teams), Pomeroon (8 teams), South Essequibo (13 teams), Central / North Essequibo (19 teams), Essequibo Islands (20 teams), Lethem (15 teams).
Apart from the hefty cash incentives, there will be live action beyond the boundary, a ploy to facilitate the many supporters and also to entertain the fans. The sport is regarded as a novelty game and the organizers aim is to maintain the interest which has waned over the years.
