The Berbice Cricket Board from the August 9 to 14 would be hosting it’s 2nd Bank of Nova Scotia Cricket Academy at the Albion Community Centre. The academy would attract the top 55 young crickets in the Ancient County and would have Winston Smith, Julian Moore and Delbert Hicks as coaches and BCB Asst. Secretary, Carol Nurse, as coordinator.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, stated that the academy is part of the BCB development programme for the future and it’s main aims would be to develop the young cricketers to their full potential while molding them into proper sports ambassadors for the county.
Foster disclosed that at the end of the academy, the Berbice junior cricket selectors would name a junior squad of 40 to be part of the Berbice junior elite training programme that would be launched later in the month. This programme would operate together with the highly successful senior elite training programme which was launched in May.
The junior elite training programme’s main aim would be to prepare the county’s best players for the 2011 junior cricket inter county season which starts next February.
