Winston Stoby and Randolph Morgan made Guyana proud at the CAC and NAPF Powerlifting championships currently taking place in Puerto Rico.
Stoby powered his way to the gold medal in the CAC segment of the championships taking place in Puerto Rico as well as the NAPF Regional Championship segment with best lifts in the Squat and Deadlift.
He recorded a Squat of – 250kg / 551 lbs, Bench Press – 130k / 287lbs and Dead lift 275kg / 606lbs for an overall total of 655kgs / 1,444lbs in the process bettering the his previous best total 652.5kgs / 1439lbs set at the Caribbean Power lifting Championships held here in Guyana in March. He defeated David Salgado of Mexico into second and Alvaro Mejia of Costa Rica third.
Competing in the 82.5kg / 181lbs bodyweight class – Randolph Morgan took 1 gold and 1 silver.
Randolph Morgan fought his way back from third position after trailing going into the last lift. With a tremendous lift of 310kgs / 683lbs he overcame a deficit of some 15kgs / 33lbs to capture gold in the CAC segment of the Championships defeating his old rival Luis Tapia of Puerto Rico into second and Chevon Simpson of Trinidad and Tobago in third.
Both Morgan of Guyana and Tapia of Puerto Rico actually finished with identical totals of 800kgs but Morgan gained the nod having the lighter bodyweight of the two for a higher Wilkes total of 547 to Tapia’s 542.
In the North American Regional Championship segment, Morgan placed second with Luis Tapia in third, behind the winner was Wade Hooper of the USA.
Morgan’s recorded in the Squat – 285kg /628lbs, Bench Press – 205kgs/ 452lbs, Dead Lift – 310kgs / 683lbs.
