Justice Kennard(2nd R) accepts the sponsorship cheque from Group Accountant (IPA) Reginald Persaud while Chairman (IPA) Lloyd Singh (extreme R) and his son Sachin observes.
As turfites get ready for the highly anticipated excitement of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) event slated for that organization’s Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne headquarters on Sunday August 15, the organizers are working assiduously to ensure that all the logistics are in place for an exciting and qualitative event.
Towards this end, the International Pharmaceutical Group of Companies, under its chairman, Lloyd Singh came on board with a lucrative sponsorship package. The Chairman presented Honorary President of the Turf Club, Justice Cecil Kennard with the prize money and the trophy for the winner of the I Class event.
Group Accountant of the IPA, Reginald Persaud, with assistance of the son of the Chairman, Sachin Singh, handed over the package to Mr. Kennard while Mr. Persaud wished him well in his endeavors.
The Group Accountant noted the IPA had supported the development of the sport and more particularly, Justice Kennard’s events for the past 8 years.
Also delivering brief remarks was Chairman Lloyd Singh. He said that his company was heartened by the strides made by Mr. Kennard to the extent that he could not reasonably say no when he was approached for sponsorship. Furthermore, Mr. Singh admitted that he has seen immense improvement because of Justice Kennard’s input. “Horseracing is on the move and we could safely say that it is because of Justice Kennard’s efforts,” said Mr. Singh.
Mr. Kennard thanked Mr. Singh and assured him that his corporate intervention will go a long way to the success of the event.
He further pointed out sports is in need of such interventions and without them nothing could be accomplished.
“On behalf of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club I wish to express heartfelt gratitude for your assistance,” Mr. Kennard told Mr. Singh.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kennard assured that Turfites would be entertained by horses of exceptionally high quality. Among some of the animals on show are Stormy Weather, Lyana, Clear Victory, Indian Flag, Fantastic Light, Miami Vice, Baby Boy and Custom’s Warrior among others.
Several exciting races are carded for the day including the feature attraction, the B and Lower event over one mile. The winner will cart off five hundred thousand dollars while the runner up rides off with half that amount. The third and fourth place finishers are guaranteed $125,000 and $63,000 respectively.
The excitement continues with the one mile event for three year olds. The winner gallops off with $350,000, one hundred and seventy five thousand dollars more than the second place finisher. The third and fourth place finishers are guaranteed $87,500 and $44,000 respectively.
The other races that comprise the day’s programme are F and Lower class as well as the 2 years old open, over a distance of 6 furlongs and 5 furlongs respectively.
Turfites could look forward to improved action especially since jockeys would be competing under improved track conditions complimented by a qualitative stable of well-bred animals. The Organizers are encouraging horserace lovers to come out early and be a part of the action.
Meanwhile, as per usual, the event is being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and all of those rules would be employed.

Administrators of Inter-Market football competition benefit from IPA chivalry
Finance Controller (IPA), Reginald Persaud, second left, hands over one of the three trophies to coordinator O’Neil Durant in the presence of another representative of IPA.
Football fans are expected to troop to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) in their droves to witness the opening session and subsequent matches in the fifth annual Inter-Market Indoor Football Competition scheduled for that venue starting Tuesday.
The organizers have promised action from the onset as the nation’s best players in this format of the game throw down the gauntlet in search of honours.
Earlier, the organizers have bemoaned the absence of corporate assistance to realize their objective of a qualitative tournament and the management of the International Pharmaceutical Agency (IPA), under its universal brand, has acquiesced to such support. Yesterday at the Company’s Camp Street offices, Finance Controller Reginald Persaud handed over three beautiful trophies to coordinator of the tournament, O’Neil Durant. The gifts would go to the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, the highest goal-scorer and the best goalie.
Delivering brief remarks shortly after handing over the prizes, Mr. Persaud re-stated his company’s commitment to the development of local sports. He further promised to continue along this vein towards the betterment of the sports fraternity.
In response, Durant expressed delight for the contribution and assured the administrators of IPA that it would go a long way in offsetting organizational costs. Fourteen markets will attempt to dethrone defending champions, Bourda Market.
