Dear Editor,
It is indeed an obvious reality that the once Garden City of Guyana has been reduced to a Garbage City, providing a haven and a proper habitat for the spread of diseases to which children and the elderly are most vulnerable.
Despite this health hazard, a Minister of the Government is cited as making such irresponsible utterances that when the city dwellers become victims of various ailments it would serve as an avenue through which strategies can be used to oust Mayor Hamilton Green and others who can be etched in as perpetrators of this disaster.
From an objective point of view it is a very sad state of affair especially coming from a Minister of the Government. It brings out the short-sightedness and immaturity in dealing with a matter of serious National importance — the health of Guyana’s citizens.
The primary and obvious focus of this Minister is not the health of the citizens but to remove one from a position of authority.
It behoves one to therefore, ask the question whether or not an electoral process does not exist through which this can be done?
In the SN issue (2010-07-20), Minister Lall claims that he never used the word “Wish” to express his sentiment on this issue. Rather, he claims that what he said is that he would be “Glad”.
I am bothered to know whether the state of being “Glad” is not as a result of a desire or an expectation being fulfilled. An individual experiences a state of gladness when an inner expectation is materialised.
It would be very satisfying if Minister Lall could expound on the stimulus or stimuli which could place him in that state of mind which would make him “Glad”.
I shudder to think of how Ministers of other Caribbean Governments would think of our leaders. To further aggravate a very agonizing issue another Minister claims that the Minister’s utterance was meant to be a joke.
Is this a situation which is comparative to a pack of playing cards where there are two non-playing cards commonly referred to as the jokers of the pack?
