Wireless Communication and Broadband Internet Company, E-Networks presented a cheque yesterday to the Coordinators of the upcoming President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic, which will fully sponsor the fourth place award of the competition.
E-Networks’ Leisa Waddell, in making the presentation, said that the company is pleased to be a major part of the development of athletes in Guyana.
She noted that E-Networks has an excellent track record as it relates to the support of local sport events.
“It is my pleasure to hand over this money, which will be beneficial to our athletes. E-Networks is always happy to be associated with our local athletes,” Waddell said, adding that she is assured that the event will have the necessary standard that was related.
The company has fully sponsored the fourth place award of $50,000.
The winning club pockets a sum of $300,000 while the second place club gets $200,000, which will both be sponsored by the telecommunication giants, Digicel; $100,000 is the third prize.
President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Colin Boyce, who is also a Coordinator of the meet along with Edison Jefford, said that E-Networks’ contribution will positively impact on the athletes and clubs in Guyana. He said it was a well-received gesture.
“I think this has set an example for other members of the corporate community. What we need is a lot more like you to help develop sports. We will ensure that this meet upholds the reasons for it coming into place in the first place, which is prestige,” Boyce said.
The inaugural President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic, which is set to become the biggest of the 2010 calendar, will be held at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden on August 29 and is expected to have international star, Aliann Pompey as a guest.
