Dear Editor,
The People of Guyana are now convinced that the National Executive Committee of the AFC and its leaders Raphael Trotman, Khemraj Ramjattan, and Sheila Holder are just like the leadership of the PPP they cannot be trusted with political power in Guyana. Every word that comes out of their mouths is guile from the pits of hell.
They promise the Guyanese people that they will stand with the Joint Opposition Parliamentary Parties (JOPP) to form a broad coalition that will unite our country and create the framework for every Guyanese to work for spiritual upliftment, and to share in the economic well-being of the country and to ensure that there is equality of opportunity in the political, economic and social life of the country.
And now the people of Guyana cannot help to wonder why the National Executive Committee of the AFC and its leaders Raphael Trotman, Khemraj Ramjattan, and Sheila Holder are suddenly vacillating on the issue of forming a Unity Government that must include all stakeholders in 2011.
Whose interest is the leadership of the AFC really working for? Are they working for the rich PPP supporters who are financing the AFC from Queens, New York? Judging from their recent behaviour it is clear that the AFC leadership is not working for the interest of the underprivileged or working class of Guyana.
The recent propagation of exclusion of political parties from the process of forming a people’s partnership by the National Executive Committee of the AFC and its leaders is a betrayal of the trust and confidence of the Guyanese people.
The people of Guyana do not care about the principles and identity that form the basis of decisions by the National Executive Committee of the AFC.
Commonsense and the history that shaped our unique culture suggest, that if we start building a people’s partnership by exclusion and selective inclusion of groups in the process, we will only encourage a policy of institutional discrimination on the basis of race, colour, religion, political beliefs, age, disability, and where applicable, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, sexual orientation and reprisal. This is not a principle and identity we the people of Guyana want to associate with. And we will not tolerate any individual, group or party trying to perpetuate this cycle in our beloved country.
As it is manifested in their words and deeds, it is crystal clear that the principles and identity of the National Executive Committee of the AFC are incompatible with the Guyanese principles found in our National Pledge and the Guyanese identity engraved on our minds by our National Motto.
Let it be known to all interested in the wellbeing of our beloved country that the people of Guyana will shun any individual, group or party who does not approach the concept of a Peoples Partnership with all Parliamentary Opposition Parties in mind.
And make no doubt about it; the people of Guyana applaud the Hon. Robert Corbin MP, Leader of the PNCR and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition for approaching the process of coalition building without any pre-conditions.
We are urging the UNDP, USAID, CIDA, and the rest of the international community to observe with keen interest all individuals, groups and political parties sowing seeds of distrust that will only hinder previous efforts for social cohesion in Guyana.
And we are asking the AFC to go back to the table with the JOPP and workout a programme for 2011 that will reflect the true meaning of our National Motto “ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE DESTINY”.
The people of Guyana want to see a United JOPP and Civil Society.
You are not welcome in our communities as a single entity.
For the future of our youth,Denton Osborne, Chairman
