With a mission to assist young women to build self-confidence, and to promote self-worth, morals, and to provide social support for youth the stage is set for a grand
Wakanaam Night.
The event is also intended to publicly recognize women who have obtained personal, professional and community achievements.
This event includes a pageant at which eight beauties—Natasha Nateram, Paloma Cheeka Kungbeharry, Showana Spencer, Nalini Sukar, Tonnaisia Robertson, Vidya Persaud, Aleisha Shareef and Annecia Hill will contest the coveted Miss Wakanaam title.
They were all trained by the reigning Miss Guyana World 2010, Imarah Radix, who is promising a pageant with a difference.
Wakenaam Night started in 2008 after residents decided to raise funds to build a pavilion for the youths in the community to have a recreational facility. Since then, that dream has been realized through the staging of the event with the pageant as a highlight.
The pageant will be used to promote health, fitness and inner beauty among women and children of all ethnic groups while producing positive role models for the Wakenaam Island community.
Headed by Jeanette Harilall the Miss Wakenaam Pageant an annual Beauty
Contest is set for Saturday.
The reigning queen is Tishanie Mandy Jairam who currently resides in Canada and is furthering her education.
