“Making steady progress” – Anthony
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, on his visit yesterday to the site of the Olympic-Size Swimming Pool that is being constructed at Liliendaal, said that the unprecedented facility is on schedule to be completed in September.
“I think we are making steady progress, we should complete this (Pool) by mid-September,” the minister told the media. World Renowned, Myrtha Pools is constructing the modern facility that will be FINA certified with a seating capacity of 750 persons.
On Anthony’s visit, German Sub-Contractor for Myrtha Pools, Norbert Schmidt updated him on the construction of the 50 metre and 2m deep pool. Schmidt took the minister around the pool, to the filtration systems and explained the specifications.
Kaieteur Sport asked Anthony how effective he thinks the pool would become in producing their desired result and he said that finally local swimmers will have a facility to practice in that would be similar to those that they compete in internationally.
“We have to look at the future, apart from swimming, we would be having things like water polo and synchronised swimming here.
Those are events that would not have been possible without the pool,” Anthony, said, adding the pool is an excellent development.
He said some of the spinoffs would be the fact that other sports disciplines will be able to use the pool for practice sessions since swimming helps in other training regiments. He informed that the public will also be able to access the facility when it is completed. (Edison Jefford)
