Executive Director of Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. Leon L Davis, received a certificate on Monday for his “outstanding and invaluable service to the community” .
At the organization’s Festival City head office, Pandit Suresh Sugrim, President of the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir, Inc. Humanitarian Mission, presented a “Certificate of Special Senate Recognition”, signed by United States Senator of New Jersey, Robert Menendez, to Davis.
This is the latest of numerous certificates and awards Davis has received for his stewardship of the reputable charity.
According to a statement from Food For The Poor, Davis has become the recipient of the certificate as a result of his nomination by the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir, Inc. Humanitarian Mission, for his outstanding work in the area of humanitarian service, and Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc.’s distinguished contribution to the local chapter of the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir, Inc. Humanitarian Mission.
In receiving the endowment, Davis noted the collaborative work of the staff of Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc., who have all been instrumental to the achievement of the organization. “It was not done by my work alone. It was done by all the members of staff that helped to make Food For The Poor what it is today”.
Expressing gratitude, Davis added: “I would like to thank Pandit Sugrim and his organisation for recognising the invaluable service Food For The Poor is doing in Guyana”.
He added that it was an honour to receive a certificate signed by the Senator of New Jersey, and promised to cherish it.
The New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir, Inc. Humanitarian Mission is a Hindu non-government organisation, with a mandate to serve humanity as much as possible, irrespective of religion or ethnicity. It was founded in New Jersey, United States in 1986, and established a local chapter in 2005. It is this local chapter with which Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. says it has enjoyed a sound relationship – a relationship made strong by the mutual active interests and mandates of both organisations: serving the poor, regardless of religious or other affiliations, and ethnic descent.
Commenting on the non-prejudicial services of Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. and the Arya Samaj Mandir, Inc. Humanitarian Mission, Pandit Sugrim posited: “If ever we decide to segregate, we’re defeating the purpose of service to humanity”. He continued: “People need to unite and work towards serving humanity”.
