Over $500,000 in cash and prizes at stake
Competitive football action will return to the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden on Wednesday when Net Rockers FC in association with the Amelia’s Ward FC brings off their 3rd annual Senior Invitational Knockout tournament.
The tournament is held with a view of promoting and developing the game in Region 10 and Guyana by extension.
The organisers in a press release noted that they are aiming to raise the competition bar this year. Over $500,000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs by 8 first division clubs from Linden and a guest team from Georgetown.
Defending champions Milerock will be pulling out all the stops in seeking to retain their crown but will find stiff opposition from Bakewell Topp XX, Netrockers and Amelia’s Ward United among others.
Patrons will have the opportunity to win a number of fabulous prizes including gate prizes, kick for cash, quick fingers top up among others.
Main sponsors Rawle Hensford and Nigel Alleyne, both based overseas, have maintained their commitment towards the tournament as they continue to aid in the development of the sport.
The organisers have also stated that they will be hosting an Under-17
competition which starts today with matches slated for the Amelia’s Ward and Wisroc Grounds. The final will be played on August 8 as a supporting game to the senior competition which will also conclude on this date.
Following the conclusion of these competitions, Under-20 teams will have their chance to showcase their talent when the Netrockers FC’s ‘Rising Stars’ competition kicks off on August 14 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.
