Victim died of smoke inhalation

A post mortem examination performed on the remains of 62-year-old Bibi Latif has revealed that the woman died as a result of smoke inhalation.
The post mortem was done yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh.
Immediately after the post mortem the woman’s remains were handed over to relatives, who proceeded with burial.
Commander of the Division, Balram Persaud said that the results have further ruled out any suspicion of foul play. Several persons in the area as well as the woman’s relatives had expression their opinion that the woman was murdered and the house set alight.
Initially neighbours claimed that they spent some ten minutes before the house was engulfed in flames calling for the woman but got no response. Around 01:30 hours on Monday last, the woman’s two-storey house which was located at De Buff Canal Number 2, went up in flames. Meanwhile, this newspaper has been informed that the three persons who were detained for questioning as it relates to the incident have been released from police custody. The three persons were released late yesterday afternoon.
