Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday refused to grant bail to two men accused of having cannabis in their possession.
Roger Francis of Kumu Village, Central Rupununi, and Brazilian citizen Sadalas Sena Silva of Boa Vista, both pleaded not guilty to the charge of illegal possession of cannabis. It is alleged that on July 19, at Lethem the two men had in their possession 2 kg 750 grams of cannabis. An interpreter was made available to the court. Both men were unrepresented.
The prosecutor objected to bail and asked for the matter to be transferred to the Lethem magistrate’s court.
That application was granted by the magistrate and the men are scheduled to make their next court appearance on September 7.
