Dear Editor,
The UN AIDS representative in Guyana Mr. Del Prado has demonstrated a dire lack of respect for the democratic process in a sovereign State, the state of Guyana, when he quite emotionally, expressed his opinion about a motion before the National Assembly, which seeks to hold accountable, by way of legislation, all persons who willfully by withholding their HIV positive status infect others.
I am fully aware of arguments against such legislation, but take offence to the meddling of an International Public servant, interfering with the peoples’ business. Further, I am annoyed that Mr. Del Prado should feel that he has the right to comment so openly on an opposition sponsored motion and would expect this same misplaced bravery to be exhibited when Government’s motions are tabled. Hold not your breath on that one.
I openly ask the United Nations senior representative in Guyana, if it is now the policy of United Nations Agencies to inject itself into the peoples’ business, even before the peoples’ representatives have had their say? I look forward to a response
Everall Franlkin, MP
