Dear Editor
I’m building a house. Against the better judgment of my children and other members of my family, I’ve decided to give the job to my friend because he quoted me a good price.
The following month when he was due to begin construction, he turned up without workers, without equipment and without tools; no hammer, no saw, no cement, no nothing.
He looked at me and said, “Harry, I need an advance of G$10 million to buy supplies and tools, and to hire some workers to build this house for you; and please hurry up for the taxi driver is waiting outside for me to pay him.”
At this point, I’m thinking, “Who does this guy take me for…President Jagdeo?”
Mr. Editor, if this story sounds ridiculous, it should be; unfortunately, it mirrors the Fraud In Progress (FIP) that is being perpetrated on the Guyanese people.
Once again, This Administration feels the money in the treasury is theirs to spend without any form of accountability to the taxpayers whose money they’re so liberal with.
Giving Makeshwar Fip Motilall an advance of G$300 million (Kaieteur News July 21) to buy equipment is fraudulent if it was not part of his contract.
And if it was, then President Bharrat Jagdeo, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, Minister of Transportation & Hydraulics Robeson Benn and the man with all the titles: Privatisation Chief & Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) Winston Brassington, need to explain to the public exactly what are the details of the contract awarded to Makeshwar Fip Motilall and his company Synergy Holdings Inc. for the construction of the US$15.4M Amaila Falls Road Project.
Maybe President Jagdeo no longer care what the people think of him because he will not be President after his term ends next year; but I strongly urge influential members of his Administration, especially those aspiring presidential hopefuls (and yes, that includes you too Mr. Rohee), to come clean with the Guyanese people on this project.
Harry Gill
