Street Warriors X1, led by a disciplined unbeaten knock of 47 from Melissa Cummings (5×4) with support from Dawn Budhram (40*) whose knock included 4 sixes and a pair of fours, defeated Kitty All Stars XI by 10 wickets when play in the 4R Masters’ Cup and Females Softball cricket competition continued at the Softball Ground, Carifesta Avenue Sunday morning last.
Also on that day at the same venue, Marshon Sports Club triumphed over Ogle by 49 runs.
Kitty All Stars XI won the toss elected to take first strike in wet conditions. Chandini Mahadeo (47) and La Toya Williams (30) were the bedrock of the innings, racking up 40 in an important 6th wicket partnership before Anita Ramdeo (3-9 from 3 overs) restricted them to their eventual total of 106 all out.
In reply, Cummings and Budhram wiped off the required total (107) without losing a wicket. Kitty All Stars had demonstrated good fielding prowess in earlier matches but a ragged display where they dropped 5 easy catches led to their demise.
In the other encounter, Marshon Sports Club defeated Ogle by 49 runs after the former won the toss and elected to bat, they amassed a challenging 126–4 in 15 overs after Audrey Mendonca struck a swashbuckling knock of 64 (5×6). She received support from Dianne Smith with 17.
Roshani Stewart was the best bowler for the opposition taking 2-9 runs from her quota of 3 overs.
Ogle found the going tough from the onset and was eventually dismissed for 77 in 14.5 overs. Parbattie Singh (3-10 from 3 overs) and Audrey Menca (3-12 from 3 overs) were the chief wicket takers for the winners.
Meanwhile, the tournament continues at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground on Sunday with the Regal Masters XI taking on Stewartville XI from 10:00hrs while at 13:00hrs Max Masters XI will oppose Success Masters XI.
