Dear Editor,
“In recent years, racial incitement to sustain a predatory political culture in Guyana continues to be at the top of the distortionists’ propaganda list”.
This excerpt was quoted from a letter penned by Dr Prem Mesir in the Kaieteur News on July 19, 2010. The infamous PPP ‘Spin Doctor’ then proceeded to blame the private media and opposition for the abuse.
The facts however, are not on the side of the PPP. The regime is on record making racial speeches at Babu John and other political strong holds and the transcripts can be gleaned from the media’s archives.
The archives of the PPP’s flagship media houses can also produce incriminating materials that show state sanctioned incitement vis a vis letters and commentaries.
The recent unprecedented lawsuit brought against the private media by President Jagdeo should be interesting to watch. I am sure these materials will be used as evidence in the trial to impeach Jagdeo’s credibility.
This trial will further embarrass the head of state since the democratic world will see his lawsuit as an attempt to muzzle the free press in Guyana and it is now on record.
It would seem that Jagdeo has a thin skin when it comes to personal criticism, but is unrestrained when castigating his critics – such as Freddie Kissoon. Mr Jagdeo is on record saying some very divisive and uncouth things over the years.
Happy digging, Kaieteur News. It is my opinion that you have wrestled the most viewership status from SN due to your courageous journalism and to change now would be to change your sense of being. Good luck with the battle and know I and many others are on your side.
