Guyana will have to come up with big wins if they are to win Group C of the Caribbean Football Union Under-17 world Cup Qualifying competition, currently underway in Dominica.
The Junior Jaguars drew their first game against the Netherlands Antilles 2-2 in Roseau, Dominica on Tuesday. Netting for the Guyanese was midfielder Pernell Schultz along with an own goal by the Netherlands team. Dominica went down to Aruba 1-2 in the feature game of the afternoon. In their second game today, the Junior Jaguars will be going all out for a convincing win over the host country when they face off from 17:00hrs, Aruba will meet the Netherlands from 13:00hrs.
The young Guyanese should be much more settled and focused for this afternoon’s game. Elsewhere, hosts Suriname hammered St. Vincent & the Grenadines 8-0 while Barbados also enjoyed a big win by a 6-0 margin over Grenada.
The battle for the top spot in the group will be between Barbados and Suriname with a number of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics players from last year representing both Suriname and Barbados.
The Surinamese face Grenada and Barbados oppose St. Vincent and the Grenadines, both games will be contested this afternoon.
Only the group winners will advance to the second group phase along with Cuba, Haiti and group hosts Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica beginning August 18.
The top two finishers in each group along with the best third-place side will qualify for next year’s 12-team CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.
