Odell Beresford, called ‘Sponge Bob’, has been remanded on a charge of being charged with attempting to commit a felony.
The accused made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates Court yesterday before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It is alleged that on July 15, last, he attempted to commit a felony by attempting to enter the dwelling house of Tavel Standford to steal. To the charge the accused pleaded not guilty.
In his own defence, Beresford told the court that on the day in question he went to Stanford’s home to drop off some money around 23:00 hours.
He told the court that after calling and getting no response he decided to wait a little but the rain came down so he decided to get shelter.
The man said while sheltering under a window a neighbour saw him and accused him of trying to get into Standford’s house.
However Standford, who was also present in court, said that he was at the ‘market’ when he received a call from a neighbour who informed him the ‘Sponge Bob’ was trying to break into his house.
He explained that he rents one of his brush cutters to the accused and is normally paid $2,000 a day but the accused is always in debt to him. Standford added that it was his neighbour who gave chase after the accused who managed to flee leaving two of the windowpanes that he had removed on the ground.
The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on September 13.
