Jul 21, 2010 Letters
Dear Editor,
I pen this letter to express my worry and concern over what has become of Guyana’s current educational system. It has been, slowly but surely, deteriorating before our eyes.
Now don’t get me wrong.
The Education Ministry has been making many fruitful efforts to improve the education system in this country.
But it is either not enough, or, he has been not targeting the correct areas.
Just take a look at the NGSA results of 2010. The majority of top performers emanate from private schools.
Previously, public schools, particularly the Leonora Primary, had yielded most of the top performers.
Well, let’s not draw hasty conclusions. This coming August, the CSEC results will be out. I’m not clairvoyant, mind you, but I am sure that we will see our fair share of private schools in the top list, like the Saraswati Vidya Niketan, or the Mae’s Secondary, to name a few.
I hope that the Honourable Education Minister, Mr. Shaik Baksh, continues to improve the quality of education delivered in Guyana.
