Charity horserace meet fixed for Sunday, recent imports on show

A new Multi-million dollar stand has been unveiled at the Rising Sun Turf Club which will be used for the first time on Sunday when the entity situated at Arima Park West Coast Berbice, which is known for it’s benevolence, will be staging a grand annual one day horserace meet in aid of the Brotherhood of St Andrew in the Anglican Diocese charity fund.
The construction of the new edifice adds to the general atmosphere of horseracing, which has been extremely competitive in recent times. With the respective clubs and even some organisations doling out monies to support the King of Sports fans can experience more comfort and exciting races.
Apart from that, the racing fraternity has seen the importation of a number of new animals over the past year. Almost all of the stables have moved to replenish their stocks, that along with the locally Bred horses has seen the number of new animals on the scene over the past 12 months spiraling past the 100 mark.
The Rising Sun Sprint meet as it is called, because none of the events will be run for more than 1400M, has seen leading Beverage giants Banks DIH Limited pumping close to $1M in sponsorship into the event. This race meet, which had been postponed earlier, has Seven races on the card with over $3 Million dollars in prize money up for grabs.
The three main events will be in the C and lower class, the Three year old Guyana and West Indies bred and the F class races.
All of the major racing entities have inked their names to be a part of the day’s proceedings with the Elcock, Crawford, Habibulla, Jagdeo, Jumbo Jet, Jagmohan, Mahaicony, Customs, Rumour’s, Singh and Naljit racing stables slated to be a part of the action.
The feature C class event is the main attraction of the day with the winner slated to run away with $400,000 plus the Banks DIH trophy over 1400M.
The 3yrs race for Guyana and West Indies bred horses has a first prize of $250,000 and the Dr. Phillip DaSilva trophy. The distance has been pegged at 1300M which ironically is the distance for the rest of the races.
Business magnate A. Ally and Sons business enterprise of East Berbice takes charge of sponsorship in the F and lower event which has a winning stake of $160,000. The winner of the G and lower gallop is set to take away $140,000.
Those entering for the highly competitive ‘I’ and lower race are expected to race away with $120,000 top prize.
The Division One and Two contests will see the horses competing for a winning purse of $100,000. The final event is for Division three horses which has available $80,000 as it top prize. The champion jockey and Trainer will receive trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda market.
So far over 50 of the cream of the crop in the horseracing circle have been listed to participate and a bumper crowd is expected to throng the venue and be a part of the days programme.
