Edward B. Beharry Group of Companies became the latest corporate sponsor to come to the assistance of the national rugby teams when they presented $2million to the Guyana Rugby Football Union on Monday, at the entity’s Head Office in Charlotte Street.
Attended by Marketing Executive Anjuli Beharry Strand, Vice Chairman Anand Beharry, President of the GRFU Christopher ‘Kit’ Nascimento, and the Union’s Secretary Curtis Jacobs, the sponsorship is intended to ensure that the teams are well prepared and equipped going forward to the Commonwealth Games in India later this year.
Nascimento speaking on behalf of the Union said that the Company has been involved in the sport for sometime now and is currently one of its major sponsors, adding that it was through their assistance that the team was able to go to Mexico.
“Without them we would not have been able to win the championships and probably might not have been given the opportunity to host these championships,” Nascimento pointed out.
According to the GRFU Head, Beharry have now become the official sponsor of the Guyana National teams.
Nascimento thanked the Company for their continued support to the sport and promised that the teams will do their best to remain champions, especially with the sponsorship coming under the ‘Champion Products’ brand.
Vice-Chairman Anand Beharry in his remarks reminded those present of their close association with the sport which has been ongoing for sometime now and how pleased their were to be linked with true champions.
He said they were extremely proud of the teams’ successes and the Company is looking forward for similar achievements over the next week when Guyana host the CAC and NACRA Tournaments.
Guyana plays its opening game against Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, Guyana is grouped with New Zealand, Canada and Scotland in the Commonwealth Games.
