Emancipation Day is here once again and the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) will be hosting a day of sports on Sunday August 1 and Monday August 2 at the National Park starting at 11:00hrs.
A release from ACDA states that activities were arranged to showcase the skills of young people while unifying the many clubs in Georgetown and its environs, through involvement in sports.
Several teams are already registered to participate in the activities and include those from Georgetown, East Coast, East Bank and West Coast Berbice.
Competitors will receive trophies, medals and cash prizes among other lucrative awards.
Some of the events carded for the day are 8 overs softball cricket competition (male and female), 75 balls circle tennis competition for mixed teams, 5 aside and penalty shootout small goal competition for area teams, boxing exhibition, cricket competition for the blind, 5 miles freedom race, ice-cream competition for children as well as the blind, forty and 60 meters dash, domino competition, all involving blind participants and much more.
The organizers are appealing to the corporate community for assistance in the form of monetary contributions or trophies and medals for the respective winners and runners up. Interested persons may call 225-8420.
Activities have been organized by Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell in collaboration with ACDA.
