Twenty-two-year old Leonard Nelson, who was charged with setting the Georgetown Public Hospital Observation Ward on fire, almost two years ago, has found himself in hot water again.
The young man was slapped with four charges ranging from assault to threatening language.
Nelson made his court appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.
The first allegation was that Nelson on July 15, at Tucville, threatened Abiola Nelson, his mother.
Another charge stated that on the same day he unlawfully and maliciously damaged a glass window.
A third charge read that Nelson threatened his sister, Omdraha Nelson.
And the last charge alleges that on July 15, he unlawfully assaulted Omdraha Nelson. To all the charges Nelson pleaded not guilty.
He was unrepresented by counsel when the charges were read to him.
Nelson’s mother told the court that her son who suffers from a mental disorder constantly harasses the family.
“He does got de whole family running up the road in the rain….He telling we he don’t know us because we are strangers” said the distraught mother.
She told the Magistrate that she tries her best to get her son looked after, but he refuses to take any medication.
The woman further told the court he lashes out at the family for no apparent reason.
“One time he does be good, good next time he does behave like he mad” said the woman.
When given a chance to speak Nelson told the Magistrate that he knows nothing about what his mother and sister are claiming.
He admitted to the Magistrate that he was charged twice, but the charges were dismissed.
“I get charged for the hospital fire….but it get discharged and I did get a weed charge…de Magistrate dismissed that too,” explained Nelson.
The prosecution asked for bail to be refused and a date for trial set. The Magistrate granted the application and Nelson was remanded to prison.
He is expected to make his second court appearance on September 2.
