The fight launched by Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority to take control of the Kitty Masjid turned ugly when someone stole the Imam’s car from within the compound last night.
At the time the Imam and the other members were praying in the Masjid. The theft of the vehicle, PLL 2722 coincided with the visit by the Prime Minister of Kuwait who was on a state visit to Guyana.
Earlier in the day he had been hurriedly summoned to court to hear an action by Sattaur’s faction for an interim committee to take control of the Masjid.
The judge declined on the grounds that the current elected executive was entitled to a hearing.
They are to return to court to file a defence on July 29.
