Ranks from the Guyana Revenue Authority’s Law Enforcement arm seized an estimated $300,000 in marijuana and detained two men during a drug bust yesterday at Kumu, an area some five miles from Lethem.
Kaieteur News understands that the ranks made the bust while investigating reports that a stolen motorbike had been smuggled from Brazil to Lethem.
Police said that the suspects are a Brazilian and a Guyanese, aged 24 and 25 respectively.
According to reports, the GRA operatives were in Kumu to investigate the report when they spotted three men acting suspiciously.
They apprehended two of the men and in the process seized a sack containing a large quantity of marijuana.
The third man, who was on a motorcycle, fled the scene.
