– Vieira wary of losingBy Edison Jefford
How has the tables turned so quickly? The humility of King offered the subdued answer when he spoke with Kaieteur Sport following his Group Four dominance yesterday at South Dakota that it is usually the norm for drivers to share the glory of the sport.
“It has always been that way. If you look at the 90s and even before then,” King said in response to a question about his recent dominance over Vieira, intending to state that historically the most common denominator has always been drivers swapping glory.
His statement did not undermine the emergence of Kevin Jeffrey, who also had a noticeable and decent outing at the meet. King said that his new engine is still a work in progress. “Its all in the development process of our attempts over the years,” he noted.
He revealed that Vieira was allowed to beat him in the past because, in his mind, he stuck for too long with the RX3. “I wanted to prove that I can win with that car. Then when I got this new one it took another one or two years to get it up and running,” King said.
Vieira, who had an unfortunate mishap in the last race when his car spun around the first turn on the bumper of King and Jeffrey, admitted that he had some ignition problems yesterday, but that he is “definitely not” happy with the way things have gone for him.
“It’s a new car and we’re still developing it, but that taking too long now. It’s very disappointing but like anything new, it will take sometime to adjust. I think 2011 will be a better year for me to get back on top but it has been a tough two years,” Vieira revealed.
“Andrew has been dominating for the last two years and it’s a tough thing to be putting in effort and not getting the results. As soon as it possible, I want to be back on top,” the plain spoken and obviously distraught Vieira told this newspaper yesterday.
