Sprinter Calvin Belgrave receives supplies for off season training
Manager of Supplement and Nutrition Store Fitness Express, Located at John and Sheriff Streets, Campbellville, Jamie Mc Donald is adamant that for Guyana’s athletes to develop and become World beaters, the long term aspect of their development has to be top priority.
Mc Donald expressed these sentiments when he handed over a supplement package to Enmore Athletics Club (EAC) Under-15 sprinter Calvin Belgrave.
The package which is made up of complete course of daily Nature’s Science Multi Vitamins, Sci Fit Whey Protein Powder and a 7-day cleanser is to assist Belgrave with the nutritional aspect of his off season training.
Belgrave, who recently returned from competition at the Hampton Games held in Trinidad and Tobago where he achieved a personal best time in the 400m of 53.37 to take silver after finishing first in his heat in 53.79 seconds and 5th in the 200m (24.53) after again winning his heat in 24.60 said he was very happy that Mc Donald continues to support his development after also contributing towards the Hampton Games trip.
His Coach John Martins disclosed that he has worked out a detailed plan for the development of the Under-15 Belgrave who will be focusing on off season training with the aim of peaking for next year’s Carifta Games Trials.
Martins noted that he has decided to go this route based on the advice of popular Trinidad Coach Rudder who has worked with young T&T Under-20 middle distance star Gavin Nero who broke the Carifta 800 and 1500 records last year.
“We will be proceeding with a packed off season training programme for Belgrave who will compete at the National Schools Championships but our main aim will not be winning since we are focusing on his long term development.”
Belgrave’s Mother Marva Clarke, who has been very supportive of her son, expressed gratitude to Mc Donald for his continued support and encouragement and promised that she would continue to ensure that he remains disciplined and have an equal focus on his academics.
Clarke also promised that she will keep Mc Donald up to speed with Belgrave’s progress in school. He attends the Ann’s Grove Community High School.
Mc Donald, who has been supporting sports across the board since opening for business last year, has been supporting a number of disciplines including Body Building, Power Lifting and Boxing among others.
“My aim in doing all this is to encourage our young athletes to aim for excellence. They must be prepared to work hard, be dedicated and committed and most of all, be disciplined because discipline is what will ensure that you are successful in life.
I like the progress that Belgrave has been making in his young career and I think he has a lot of promise. Fitness Express will continue to do its bit to encourage our athletes, male and females to aim high and we wish Belgrave every success now and in the future.”
