Dear Editor,
I express outrage at the supposedly reported statement of the Minister of Local Government in Kaieteur News Thursday 15th, 2010, captioned, “Minister wishes for health crisis in the city.”
I have no allegiance to any political party, organisation or movement and I reserve the right to comment, constructively criticise and/or give my opinion on affairs of this country as a Guyanese citizen.
Therefore the statement by the minister, as reported with regards to the state of the Mayor personally and the council generally is not in question. It is, however, outrageous, naïve and simplistic to wish such ill-fated occurrences on citizens so as to prove the council’s inefficiencies, wastefulness, excesses and the minister’s position of correctness.
Is it not this same minister who compromised the rules of fire-arm holders and the safety of Georgetown’s citizens by brandishing a weapon in a public place without threat to life or limb but for aggrandizement, when he pistol-whipped a suspected suitor of his mistress?
How can such a person devoid of reason and compassion, rise to be a minister of government?
I ask the President, the new presidential candidate, General Secretary of the PPP, and the voters to take note of the callousness of some of our elected/selected officials.
