Residents of Linden, who have been affected by the severe floods, are baffled at the lack of interest being paid by the relevant authorities who are supposed to assist with their predicaments.
According to Noel Rose, who was wearing long boots when he spoke to this newspaper, residents living in Mines area, Old England and Siberian have been tremendously affected by the recent floods.
He said that most of the houses in that area are flooded with several inches of water and persons are unable to carry out their daily activities, sometimes waiting five to six hours for the water to withdraw.
Persons would have to use boats in order to carry out their respective activities and businesses, Rose said that the water is very filthy since many persons have latrines in their yards and the water has mixed with the waste matter, combined with the garbage, causing serious health hazards.
“Many reptiles have surfaced…and persons cannot use the water to bathe or drink, we are in need of drinking water right now,” Rose disclosed.
Residents collectively agreed that the stench from the water is sometimes unbearable especially when the flood recedes; while many children are also unable to attend schools and classes.
Another resident said that farmers and people with gardens have been affected tremendously, particularly persons with livestock. “Most of the homes that are flat are flooded.”
He said many of the disabled and elderly cannot exit their homes until the water recedes, in addition to persons leaving their homes to stay by relatives because of the flood.
