Dear Editor,
The President has sued Kaieteur News and Freddie Kissoon for libel but can Freddie sue the President?
This is unfair that no one can sue the President whilst he is in office but the President is free to sue anyone.
Who in their right mind can live or invest in a country like this? Freddie is entitled to sue President Jagdeo for calling him a “sleaze ball journalist”, “Man Kisser” etc.
As President of a country, President Jagdeo has gone too low to sue a fellow citizen and prove that he is very thin-skinned. President Jagdeo should display more maturity as a President and act as a statesman instead of behaving like a spoilt child.
Can you believe how many lawsuits President Obama, Tony Blair and former President Clinton could have filed if they were thin-skinned as Mr. Jagdeo? But as public figures these people displayed leadership, maturity and statesmanship unlike Mr. Jagdeo.
The CCWU and FITUG have finally awakened by picketing a private enterprise when they are not needed there. It was made clear earlier in this year that the workers at the Pegasus Hotel do not need the CCWU as they considered the union and union dues that they were paying a waste.
The workers at the Pegasus stated that they were satisfied with their pay and benefits and there was no need for a union and instead they formed their own Staff Association.
But the CCWU needs income and they depended on union dues from poor working class people for their survival.
Why was FITUG silent when the bauxite workers were fired by a foreign company RUSAL? Why were they silent when the sugar workers were tear gassed recently for striking for their rights and employees NIS deductions not paid over to the NIS by certain employers and employees cannot get their benefits?
What about all those underpaid public servants, police, nurses, soldiers, domestics etc? It was clear that the picketing exercise at the Pegasus was politically motivated, as Carvil Duncan and Komal Chand, are both close to the PPP government and were prominent in the picketing exercise.
Finally, the picketing exercise was illegal as the picketers were on private premises.
They should have been on the road instead of entering private premises. How would you feel if someone comes into your yard and picket you?
But then we are in Guyana where bullyism rules the day.
