Turfites are gearing up for competitive action when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club (NSMTC) of Silver Park No 6 West Coast Berbice stages a grand one day horse race meet at the Club’s head office, at the above address, tomorrow Sunday July 12. The event will witness the kind of gripping contests that horse race lovers are accustomed to whenever the NSMTC stages these meets.
Some of the country’s top horses, ridden by experienced jockeys, would be contesting for more than $4M in cash and prizes in a day anticipated to be a chockfull of fun and excitement. To date more than 65 horses have satisfied the entrance requirements and entries are expected to close today. Among some of the top animals on show would be Annie’s Play Mate, who recently did a sparkling 4 furlong gallop that mesmerized turfites and sent the betting boys in a frenzy. She would be the horse to watch out for in the C Class event.
Reports coming out of the Colin Elcock Stable suggest that Delmar Gold and The Message are both going good at gallops and are expected to set the tracks ablaze. Throw in Night Crescendo, Tropical Passion, from the Rumours stable and Mr. Jumbo Jet Chestnut horse, Top of the Line and turfites can come expecting a great day on the tracks.
Some of the other events listed for the day include the C and lower, the 3 yr old open, the 2 yr old event and the F class. These races are all expected to be action packed along with the one for horses classified in the G &H category.
The feature C class1400M event is expected to be a humdinger and the organisers have put up a hefty purse of $450,000 for the jockey riding in first. The race among the three year olds for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies is slated for 1600M and offers a first prize purse of $330,000. The two year old horses are all born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies and will cover 1000M where the winner gallops off with $250,000.
The F class event will be contested over 1200M and has a first prize of $240,000 while the winner of the G &H class contest, also over 1200M, will gallop off with $200,000.
The I Class, J Class and lower race is another 1200M affair with the winner pocketing $140, 000.
Thirteen of the horses that failed to register a win for the day would then compete over 1100M for a first place prize of $130,000. The final event of the day pits the skill of K and L Class horses over 1200M for a top prize of $120,000.
Further, top jockeys and trainers will win trophies donated by Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market.

Following recent rehabilitation works at the tracks, race fans will be able to view the races in absolute comfort. The grand stand has also been refurbished and guarantees adequate and absolute comfort for those in attendance. Race time is 13:00hrs.
