USA’s women trounced Canada by 112 runs and by 9 wickets respectively on Tuesday and Wednesday in the first two games before winning by 7 wickets yesterday to take the three-match 50-over cricket series at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City 3-nil.
On Tuesday, Canada elected to field in overcast conditions, and after being circumspect early on, USA settled in well.
Player/Coach Indomatie Goordial-John led the dominance with 83 from 118 balls.
Captain Durga Das contributed 53 and added 92 for the 2nd wicket with Goordial John as USA made 226-7.
Canada’s run chase of 227 never gained momentum as wickets fell frequently. Shondell Ward was unplayable in her spell of 5-20 as the top four departed for single figure scores. Mikaela Turik’s 40 delayed the inevitable as Canada fell for 114.
Goordial-John claimed the final wicket, to seal a resounding victory for her side and the player-of-the-match award.
The 24-year-old Guyanese-born Goordial-John, who represented the West Indies Women in one Test and 10 ODIs before migrating to the USA with her Vincentian husband, again played a big part in the USA’s series winning victory on Wednesday with 1-21 from 9.3 overs and an unbeaten 36.
The Guyanese-born new ball pair of Shondell Ward (2-24) and Triholder Marshall (1-40) were among the wickets for the USA who dismissed Canada for 135 in 48.4 overs.
Goordial, who hails from the same village in Guyana (Unity, East Coast Demerara) that produced West Indies players Shiv Chanderpaul and Colin Croft and West Indies Blind cricketer Ganesh Singh, shared in an unfinished century 2nd wicket stand with India born Monique Mathee, who made 70 not out as USA reached 136-1 in 36 overs.
Yesterday former West Indies Female player Candacy Atkins, the other Guyanese in the USA team, made a solid unbeaten 36 as the USA reached 87-3 replying to Canada’s 86 all out in the final game.
