Savage Masters defeats Regal Masters
Savage Masters defeated Regal Masters by 5 wickets to book a spot in the quarter finals when play in the 4R Masters’ Cup and Females Softball Cricket tournament concluded on Sunday July 11 last.
Regal Masters XI won the toss and defied the wet conditions to take first strike. The decision backfired as only veteran player, Andre Legall, mastered the conditions. He scored a patient 40. Together with Lance Adams they added 45 to boost Regal Masters’ total to a respectable 138 all out in 19.4 overs. This represented a recovery as at one stage Regal Masters were 68-7 at the end of the 13th over.
Wallack Joseph bowled intelligently for the opposition and picked up 5-41 from his 5 overs with support from Hardat Narine (2-28 from 5 overs).
Savage Masters XI then knocked off the required runs in 17.2 overs (143-6) despite an incisive bowling performance by opening bowler Mahase Chunilall (2-25 from 5 overs). Mahendra Arjune also bowled excellently capturing 2-35 from 3.2 overs.
Nadir Baksh, batting in the lower order, clobbered an unbeaten 42 and with support from Balram Lakhram (28*), took their team to safety and a spot in the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, Floodlights XI tackle Mahaica Masters tonight at the National Park tarmac for the other quarter final spot. Success Masters will take on Savage Masters XI tomorrow at Demerara Cricket Club ground starting at 13:00hrs. Also, at 10:00hrs tomorrow Regal Masters XI will do battle with Everest CC Over 40 team.
