Former Group 4 champion Mark Vieira believes that once the team gets the handling problems fixed he could once again become a potent force in the division and even regain his rule.
Vieira, who had taken a one-year break from the sport to acquire a new car, is hoping for an improved performance at this weekend’s Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club ‘race of Champions Meeting scheduled for the South Dakota Circuit.
The former champ whose Mazda RX 8 returned some creditable results in the recently concluded Caribbean Series at Dover Speedway in Jamaica speaking with Kaieteur Sport said that even the late return of the car have not severely affected his preparations since he did not suffer any major problems in Jamaica so he should be able to keep pace with the other contenders on Sunday.
He was adamant that they were getting on top of the minor issues that have beset the car since its arrival in the country and it is only a matter of time before they achieve maximum performance.
“The car has the power and everything else, but it just a question of getting everything to work together,” Vieira said.
Usually someone to make predictions, Vieira this time was extremely cautious and just simply said that he will do his best.
He like his son Matthew, who predicted that if it rains the his dad will win all his races, disclosed that should the rain fall it definitely will suit his style of driving and improve his chances of winning.
He extended thanks to his sponsors Digicel and Shell V-Power who’ve both stuck with him through the years.
He also urged fans to expect a frenetic battle for top honours in all the divisions, but made special mention of the Group 4 category which has the likes of Andrew King, Kevin Jeffrey, Andrew Morgan, Shawn King, Keith Evelyn, Vishok Persaud, Ryan Rahaman and Paul Vieira.
