– “I will accept if nominated”
Speaker of the National Assembly and Executive Member of the Peoples’ Progressive Party Civic, Ralph Ramkarran, says that if he is called upon to be the Presidential Candidate of his party, he will accept.
Addressing delegates and observers at FITUG’s conference at the Umana Yana on Wednesday, the PPP executive member said that he was satisfying the curiosity of those who kept asking. Pointing out that the PPPC will determine its Presidential Candidate for the 2011 elections in due course, I will merely say to satisfy any curiosity, Ramkarran said. “And if I am the nominee, I will accept with humility, knowing full well of the enormous challenges ahead.”
The seasoned PPP executive observed that among those challenges would be putting in place systems to ensure the elimination of ethnic insecurity and ethnic politicisation.
Ramkarran said that he would follow the plans laid out for Guyana’s development and the economy, on the foundations already laid by this and the previous administration.
He stated plainly, too, that he would continue with the programmes laid out in the pursuit of the Low Carbon Development Strategy as advanced by President Bharrat Jagdeo. He would also develop Guyana’s hydro electric potential.
He will also work on increasing Guyana’s productive capacity in agro industries, and in other areas.
“In any event, I say without hesitation, that I subscribe to the agenda of FITUG and of the working people of Guyana, It is a commitment which I undertook as a young man at the beginning of my political life. It is a commitment to which I subscribe today. It is a commitment that I will fearlessly uphold if I am called upon by my party and my country to serve as your President,” Ramkarran concluded.
