– mother forgives homeowner
Almost the entire village of Melanie Damishana turned out yesterday to pay their final respects to 16-year-old Leandrew Davis, who died tragically two Mondays ago after he was electrocuted while holding on to a fence near the community’s playfield.
Following a viewing of his body at his residence, Davis’ casket was carried by former colleagues of the Melanie Damishana Youth Development Football Team from his home amidst loud wailing from his mother, Audrey Ferrell.
A moving funeral service followed at the World Harvest Ministries and Healing Centre, which was packed beyond capacity.
Tributes flowed, describing the young man as an industrious person who had a great future ahead of him.
Ferrell, while holding on to her son’s casket, indicated that she had forgiven the person who had caused the death of her son, although many are still adamant that the homeowner must face the full force of the law.
“He is a man of God and it was the Devil who caused him to do what he did. I forgive him,” Ferrell said, while holding back tears.
Leandrew Davis was Ferrell’s only son.
Crafton Wright, 60, was charged with manslaughter as a result of the incident and has been placed on $250,000 bail.
On Monday July 5, Davis and his colleagues had gone to Wright’s fence to retrieve a ball that was kicked into his yard.
It was while holding on to the fence that Davis was electrocuted.
In the aftermath of the incident, anger raged among residents, leading to the damaging of Wright’s house and his car.
Wright has not returned to his house since being released on bail.
