President of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), Trevor Rose is expected to finalise arrangements for the restart of the Division I League that was suspended to facilitate a national super ward basketball tournament eight weeks ago.
Speaking briefly with Kaieteur Sport, Rose stated that after the completion of the first set of games, the association thought it best to have a new marketing mechanism in place for the event that will include mass branding of its major sponsors.
“We want to have the tournament properly sponsored and marketed. I am meeting some sponsors… and I hope that I will have a final word on the restart of the League… It has been out of competition a long time now,” Rose indicated.
Among the many obstacles the League had initially faced was the fact that is was unable to make a positive claim for major sponsorship. The GABA President identified that as a problem early in the League before the Super Ward forced its postponement.
Many clubs and basketball aficionados have been calling for the restart of the event that is aimed at seeding the Georgetown clubs. Ranking became necessary with the emergence of those private tournaments that only require, in most cases, the top four teams.
