– Ramsaroop could challenge Greene
A date has been finally set for the much-anticipated Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections, which will be held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on the last day of this month, beginning at 1pm.
From all indications, barring any major upset, Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene looks set to take the Presidency of the association following an announcement from former head, Anil Nandlall, that he would not be seeking re-election.
Greene was the last of several candidates for the top post. Director of Sport, Neil Kumar called out Harold Hopkinson for the post at ceremony earlier this year while Aarron Fraser also made a pitch for the post early in the association’s election year.
However, with the emergence of Greene, it seems as though those two candidates had shifted to the shadows while rumors of a challenge from former President, Peter Ramsaroop have been in the grapevines. For now, Greene is the only sure candidate.
Greene has been putting his money where his ambition lies, dolling out $250,000 to the leading performers of the GTTA Independence tournament, which he followed with a master’s tourney in which he also showed his financial benevolence to the performers.
Ramsaroop on the other hand, is reportedly building his claim against the backdrop that it was in the year in which he was President of the association that the GTTA won its ‘Sports Association of the Year’ Award after putting in lots of effort at its helm.
Meanwhile, a release from the association stated each registered club is entitled to send as many delegates as it desires, but only one person will be allowed to vote. Clubs are reminded to ensure their annual subscription fees have been paid prior to the meeting.
