In a nail–biting climax to what was a well organised competition, Rising Stars defeated Bayroc Blazers by 4 runs to win the Youths For Change (YFC) Circle Tennis Competition which was organised by the Upper Demerara Circle Tennis Association on Caricom Day, July 5, 2010.
Rising Stars posted 166 to which Bayroc Blazers were limited to 162. Western Stars outshone Blue Berry Hill United for the 3rd place trophy with Christianburg/Moulding Combined ending 5th, all the teams received trophies.
According to a YFC Press Release, the enthusiasm and determination exhibited by the organisers ensured that the competition was implemented as planned. Opening remarks were delivered by Leader of the Alliance For Change Raphael Trotman, Member of Parliament Everall Franklin, and YFC President Allister Collins.
They all expressed willingness to work with the community of Linden.
A number of individual trophies were also presented. Female MVP – Patricia Tello (29 runs); Male MVP- Shawn Stanford (121 runs); Youngest Male: Mark Kennedy (10 years); Youngest Females: Annecia Benjamin (15 years) and Shaniece Sullivan (14 years); Oldest Male: Ulric Lowenfield (48 years); Oldest Female: Florence Jacobs (46 years). The officiating umpires were also rewarded – Ulric Lowenfield and Keith Gishard.
YFC has expressed satisfaction at the high levels of discipline exhibited by the players and said they are looking forward to working with the Upper Demerara Circle Tennis Association and the people of Linden to create opportunities and events in the future.
