A total of 23 persons on the East Bank of Demerara have entered and are making great strides in the Total Fitness Gym ‘Biggest Loser’ competition. Total Fitness Gym is located at Grove on the East Bank of Demerara.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Gym Manager/Trainer Videsh Sookram whose brain child it was to bring off such a competition said its primary aim is to help the participants become serious about their physical condition and work towards developing healthy lifestyles.
“I felt the desire to something to help people become serious and adopt a discipline routine towards life and I must say that the response has been very encouraging. The persons who are in the programme are all doing well and responding very well to the training.”
The experienced trainer stated that the participants are placed on a special diet plan; follow a particular gym and training schedule which include aerobics, weights training and jogging sessions on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Paul Francois, one of the competitors started the programme with a bodyweight of 276lbs and has since lost 35lbs. Jennifer Moonsammy has gotten rid of 45lbs from her 238 when she entered while Edon Bobb who tipped the scales at 287lbs is 50lbs lighter to date.
Competition among the participants Sookram notes is heightening and very exciting as they work hard and support each other. But there only be one winner.
The competition commenced on May 6 and is expected to end on September 11 when the Gym hosts a Body Building and Ms. Best Legs competition at the Diamond Community Centre Ground.
Sookram shared that among the prizes for the winner will be a Digital Camera and Hamper sponsored by Digital Technology. Fitness Express, a Nutritional and Supplement Store will also present a hamper to the winner.
